In the pursuit of happiness many people will go through the steps of:
  • Positive thinking
  • Removing negative people from your life
  • Using the Law of Attraction
  • Embracing your creativity
  • Engaging in uplifting hobbies
Yet they will neglect one very important aspect that is guaranteed to be holding you back.  If you do not properly declutter your home, work space and mind you will never fulfil your full potential for a blissfully happy life.  

The mind

why_decluttering_is_so_important-the_mind Your mind is split into two parts, your conscious mind, which is the part that you use all the time to decipher the world around you and an unseen part, the subconscious mind, which is the part that sees everything but doesn’t allow you to consciously access this information.  It is your unseen subconscious mind that is more important and should be cared for properly.  

Conscious mind

why_decluttering_is_so_important-conscious_mind Your conscious mind is the part that acknowledges the things you see on a daily basis in a highly filtered way.  When you look at a building your conscious mind might acknowledge that the building is grey in colour with mirror effect windows.  Everything else about that building is irrelevant so you don’t think about these extra details.  However, there is a part of your mind that has taken in every single possible detail about that building… your subconscious mind.  

Subconscious mind

why_decluttering_is_so_important-subconscious_mind Your subconscious remembers every possible detail about that building.  It sees the colour, the mirror effect windows and also every measurement, how many windows there are, etc.  It can even count how many bricks are in the external wall of the building and all of this takes place in the second or two that it took you to glance at the building. This system of remembering literally everything that is going on comes into play when your desk at work is filled with junk or when all of the housework is sitting there waiting to be done.  Your subconscious mind will mull over these details constantly and is expecting all of these household chores to be completed.  Such niggling feelings in your subconscious mind will cause you to lose sleep, feel uneasy and cloud your thoughts. If you do not get the clutter taken care of it will never allow your subconscious to find any bit of rest or peace.  Do you really need all that crap?  There are plenty of charities that could do with those things.  Do yourself a big favour and declutter like a maniac until it’s all done.  If you have any unfinished projects either get them finished as soon as possible or get rid of them completely.
