Sometimes, even if we love the idea of having the career we have, it may be necessary to simply walk away, move on and find something else to do with yourself.  Some people are very good at identifying the exact moment when a job is no longer serving them or when the stress levels are getting to a critical point that they have no choice but to walk out, sometimes without having another job to go to.

The fear

when_you_should_quit_your_job-the_fear Yes, it can be very scary to just stand up and walk out one day, without any notice or without having even looked for another job.  This fear is perfectly natural and affects anyone who quits their job on the spot without having any plans in place.  But this fear should not be feared, as you are doing the right thing for you and your own health.  Never worry about such a thing.  Instead, focus and generate a belief that you will find a new job, a far better job.

Signs

when_you_should_quit_your_job-signs Some signs are very clear and others are just niggling little feelings in the back of your mind but they are there for a reason.  With some signs it could be that your subconscious mind has picked up enough info to suggest that it is time to go.  Some of the signs to watch out for are:
  • You dread the thoughts of going to work in the morning
  • Complaining about your job all the time
  • You don’t like your work colleagues anymore
  • The company is quickly going out of business
  • You are consumed by crippling stress
  • Your passion for the work is completely gone
  • Your productivity levels have plummeted to nothing
  • Your job consistently consumes more than 40 hours (per week) of your time
  • You have a very anxious or apprehensive feeling every Sunday evening
  • You are being passed over for promotions or left out of meetings (they no longer like you)
  • You feel hopelessly bored with your job
  • You are being bullied or sexually harassed
Before walking out of a job it is important to determine will you be able to cope with a notice period?  Most employment requires you to give notice at least 1 month before finishing.  Could you possibly stand to do this work for 1 more month?  If you can, than it is always better to hand in your notice as this gives you a window of opportunity to find a new job but will also leave you in good standing with your boss.  Remember, you may need to use this place as a reference in the future. Always weigh up your options and make the best decision that feels right for you and your future happiness.
